Qatar's homegrown agri-tech startup, VFarms, is demonstrating its innovative, climate-resilient food security solutions at Expo 2023 Doha. The company's technology enables farmers to cultivate crops throughout the year, irrespective of seasonal and climatic variations, by harvesting atmospheric water using solar energy – eliminating the need for external water supplies.

Aligning with Qatar's Vision 2030

The technology developed by VFarms aligns with the principles of Qatar's National Vision 2030, which emphasizes sustainable alternatives to conventional water desalination and food security. Established in 2021 as a member of the Qatar Science & Technology Park (QSTP), part of the Qatar Foundation, VFarms confronts the challenges posed by Qatar's extreme climate.

During the Expo, Andrey Martirosov, CEO and founder of VFarms, reflected on the company's journey. He underlined the success in creating a proof-of-concept model and expressed confidence in moving towards the commercial market. Martirosov also highlighted the support of QSTP and the government of Qatar in battling food and water scarcity.

VFarms is exhibiting at the Investment Hub pavilion, underlining Qatar's commitment to sustainability and modern agricultural innovation. The company's presence at the Expo is supported by the Ministry of Commerce and Industry and the Investment Promotion Agency Qatar, further showcasing the nation's commitment to innovation and sustainability. Ahmed Al Enazi, Planning and Strategic Initiative Director at QSTP, underscored QSTP's role in cultivating an environment conducive to the research and development of sustainable solutions that align with national priorities.
