In an important reshuffling, Nigeria's President Bola Tinubu has announced the appointment of Mele Kyari as the new Group Chief Executive Officer (GCEO) of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL).
The appointment, effective from December 1, 2023, was disclosed on Monday by the President's Special Adviser on media and publicity, Ajuri Ngelale. This key decision is in accordance with Section 59 (2) of the Petroleum Industry Act, 2021.
Alongside Kyari, a new management team was also unveiled for the NNPCL. Chief Pius Akinyelure has been appointed as the Non-Executive Board Chairman. Additionally, several other notable executives have been assigned various non-executive director roles, indicating a comprehensive reshuffling of the oil company's leadership.

The newly appointed members include Alhaji Umar Isa Ajiya, the new Chief Financial Officer. The list of Non-Executive Directors consists of Mr. Ledum Mitee, Mr. Musa Tumsa, Mr. Ghali Muhammad, Prof. Mustapha Aliyu, Mr. David Ogbodo, and Ms. Eunice Thomas. These appointments underline the President's commitment to ensuring the NNPCL is led by industry professionals with a wealth of experience.
