Petaling Jaya Police Dismantle Drug Syndicate Using Novel Packaging Tactics

In a significant operation, Petaling Jaya police have dismantled a drug syndicate operating out of a luxury apartment in Sungai Way, leading to the arrest of a 26-year-old man believed to be the ringleader. This syndicate was notable for its unique method of distributing drugs, which were packaged to mimic flight boarding passes and bore superhero logos, targeting individual users and entertainment venues.

Operation Details and Seizures

The raid, conducted on February 23, uncovered an extensive operation. Authorities seized 5kg of ecstasy powder, 405.23g of ecstasy pills, 73g of ketamine, and 80g of Erimin 5 pills, with the total value of the drugs estimated at RM406,309. The packaging strategy included the use of flight boarding passes and superhero logos to appeal to a specific market segment. The police also confiscated RM320 in cash, an iPad, and drug-processing equipment, including blenders and weighing machines. It’s estimated that the seized drugs could have supplied 5,081 addicts.

Syndicate’s Operations and Market

Active for about two years, the syndicate primarily catered to the Klang Valley market, including entertainment outlets. Each 105g packet of their product had a street value of RM150, whereas in clubs, the price rose to RM250. The suspect, who has tested positive for drugs, is currently under remand for further investigation. This operation shines a light on the evolving tactics of drug syndicates to evade detection and cater to their market’s demands.

Assistant Commissioner Shahrulnizam has emphasized the police’s ongoing commitment to combating drug-related crimes and mentioned that efforts are underway to arrest another member of the syndicate. The police are also investigating the source of the drug supply. With the novel packaging method raising concerns about detection evasion, the police are urging the public to report any suspicious activities.
