Equatorial Guinea’s Strategic Vision 2035 and the Russia-Africa Summit

Equatorial Guinea’s Ambitious 2035 Development Plan
Under the auspices of the country’s Vice President, Teodoro Nguema Obiang Mangue, the Republic of Equatorial Guinea is embarking on an ambitious economic diversification plan known as the Strategic Horizon 2035. This comprehensive strategy is designed to stimulate growth across all sectors, ultimately improving the nation’s socio-economic wellbeing and paving the way for the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
One of the key aspects of this initiative is job creation. By fostering a conducive environment for business growth and development, the government aims to reduce unemployment and underemployment rates. The Strategic Horizon 2035 plan was unveiled at the Russia-Africa Summit, which took place in Saint Petersburg.
Investment Opportunities and Future Summits
Recognizing the potential benefits of foreign direct investments in achieving its strategic plan, the Vice President extended an invitation to Russian entrepreneurs to invest in Equatorial Guinea’s domestic market. The invitation is an indication of the government’s commitment to fostering beneficial international partnerships and alliances that will drive national development.
In a show of confidence and readiness for global collaboration, a proposal was made for the third Russia-Africa Summit to be held in Equatorial Guinea. This move signifies the country’s preparedness to open up to the international community on economic-business and political fronts while also looking to promote its tourism sector.
Russia’s Expanding Relations with Africa
On the Russian side, plans were announced to strengthen cooperation with Africa. This comes in the form of expanding diplomatic representations across the continent. The announcement made by the Russian leader revealed plans to open embassies in Equatorial Guinea and Burkina Faso, with headquarters based in the respective capitals. This move indicates Russia’s commitment to foster stronger ties with African nations, and it is expected to facilitate better diplomatic and economic relations.
