In an unprecedented act of bravery, two Canadian citizens kidnapped in the city of Cali, Colombia, were successfully rescued. Details of the Kidnapping and Rescue

The Canadians, both 28-year-old software developers, were abducted on November 23 while socializing at a night-time commercial establishment. Unknown assailants forced them to leave the premises and held them captive in a central Cali hotel room for three days. Their rescue was made possible by the Gaula military and the CTI of the Prosecutor's Office, following alerts from friends in the city who reported their disappearance.

Authorities on the Hunt

Authorities are currently conducting a 'lock and key' operation to apprehend the kidnappers, whose affiliations, if any, to organized criminal groups remain unknown. The identity of the kidnappers also remains undisclosed, and they are believed to have fled the area. The Colombian Military Forces were responsible for the successful rescue operation and continue their search for the abductors.

Between January and September 2023, Colombia recorded 245 kidnappings, representing a surge of more than 70% compared to the same period in 2022, when there were 142 cases.
