Renowned Australian rock legend, Jimmy Barnes, has been admitted to the hospital, grappling with bacterial pneumonia. This development has compelled the cancellation of his forthcoming performance at Rock The Boat 2023 in Noumea, New Caledonia. Barnes disclosed his health status to his fans via social media, mentioning he has been on intravenous antibiotics for more than 36 hours.
The Peril of Pneumonia
Bacterial pneumonia, frequently triggered by Streptococcus pneumoniae strain, is notorious for its potential severe complications. These can range from fever, chest pain, breathlessness, and fatigue to life-threatening situations, especially for individuals over 65 or those recuperating from surgery.
Optimism Amidst Adversity
Despite the setback, Barnes assured his fans that the show would go on. His band and daughter, Mahalia, will take the stage with other distinguished guests at the event. The 67-year-old singer had previously been through an emergency hip surgery towards the end of 2022 due to intense pain following years of vigorous performances, which considerably restricted his mobility. This surgery is another hurdle Barnes is currently recovering from.
Looking Towards The Future
Keeping an optimistic outlook, Barnes is looking forward to his recovery and has plans for a performance on December 2 at By The C in Torquay, Victoria. He is set to headline the event alongside other renowned artists including Birds Of Tokyo, The Living End, and Mahalia Barnes. Despite the challenges, Barnes's spirit remains unbroken, encapsulating the age-old adage - 'the show must go on.'
