Klick Foundation Pledges $850 Million to Cut Carbon Emissions in Ghana

In a significant step towards reducing global carbon emissions, the Klick Foundation, a Swiss carbon credit procurement agency, has pledged $850 million to fund six projects in Ghana.

This investment is expected to yield both environmental benefits and socio-economic improvements, aligning with the Paris Agreement's Article 6.2 that encourages joint efforts to mitigate climate change.

A Collaborative Effort for Climate Change Mitigation

The Klick Foundation's commitment includes $700 million for project investments, $30 million in fees to the Ghanaian government, and an anticipated $150 million from carbon credit revenue. These projects span various sectors, including green cooling air conditioning systems, clean cooking solutions, renewable energy, electric mobility, composting, and sustainable agriculture in palm oil and rice production.

Dr. Daniel Tutu Benefoh, Ghana's Focal Point for the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change, announced that these initiatives are projected to cut emissions by six million tonnes by 2023. Moreover, they are expected to generate at least 7,000 jobs, offering a beacon of hope for the local economy.
