With temperatures potentially soaring beyond 40 degrees Celsius, the ongoing drought conditions across various regions may worsen. Every Mexican state will be impacted, with northern states predicted to bear the brunt of stronger heatwaves and the Yucatán Peninsula anticipating higher humidity levels.

Mexico City: A Hotbed of Environmental Alerts

Mexico City, in particular, finds itself in a precarious position, with forecasts suggesting between three to eight environmental alerts due to heatwaves and atmospheric ozone. The Environmental Commission of the Megalopolis (CAMe) has emphasized the implications of ozone on vulnerable populations, urging citizens to take informed action during the 'dry-hot' season.

El Niño and La Niña: Nature's Thermostat

These extreme weather conditions can be attributed to the last vestiges of the El Niño phenomenon, expected to conclude by April. As El Niño recedes, La Niña is projected to take its place between June and August, further exacerbating the heat situation.

In response to this looming crisis, officials have underscored the importance of staying informed about pollution indices and adhering to recommendations.
