Nigeria Embarks on Tech City Ventures with UK Consortium to Boost Industrialization

The Federal Government of Nigeria, in a significant move towards sustainable industrialisation, has unveiled plans for the creation of Tech Cities across the nation, starting with Abuja Tech City. This development was announced during the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Domineum/Edenbase Consortium from the United Kingdom. The initiative seeks to mirror the achievements of the London Tech City Ecosystem, aiming to transform Nigeria's industrial and technological landscape.

The Abuja Tech City project is designed as a comprehensive smart and Green City, integrating tech-driven startups, industries, entertainment facilities, schools, and parks within a Free Trade Zone.

This ambitious vision is part of Minister Uche Nnaji's Agenda 8 and 9, focusing on the Clean Tech Program and the Green Manufacturing Initiative, respectively. The project aims to replicate the success of London's Tech City, which, in its fifth year, boasted a valuation of £61 billion and accommodated over 5,000 companies.

Key figures, including Geoffrey Weli-Wosu of Domineum and Satesh Melwani from the Edenbase Consortium, have expressed their excitement over the project's potential to catalyze Nigeria's push towards becoming a hub for technological innovation and industrial growth.
