In a strategic move poised to invigorate the RISC architecture processors domain, MIPS Inc., a groundbreaking company in the sector, has announced the appointment of two industry stalwarts to its leadership team. Drew Barbier and Brad Burgess, both notable figures from SiFive Inc., a RISC-V pioneer, have now joined the ranks of MIPS. Barbier has assumed the role of Vice President of Products, and Burgess steps in as the Chief Architect.

MIPS Leadership Reinforced

This significant development comes on the heels of Sameer Wasson taking the helm as CEO of MIPS in September 2023. Wasson brought with him a clear vision to bolster MIPS's presence in the fiercely competitive RISC-V market. It is in line with this vision that the new appointments have been made.

Brad Burgess is a seasoned professional with over thirty years of experience in the semiconductor industry. His portfolio includes the successful delivery of processors compliant with major instruction set architectures, including x86, 68k, PowerPC, Arm, and RISC-V, during his tenure as the Chief CPU Architect at SiFive.

Industry Veterans Join MIPS

Drew Barbier, on the other hand, brings over six years of rich experience from SiFive, where he served as the Senior Director of Product Management. His illustrious career also includes stints at Faraday Technology, Arm, and Analog Devices.

Expressing confidence in the new appointees' ability to drive IP innovation and market penetration, CEO Sameer Wasson stated that the addition of Barbier and Burgess to the MIPS team is expected to herald a new era of growth and expansion for the company.

MIPS Expands Physical Presence

Adding to the momentum, MIPS also announced its plans to expand its physical presence with new offices in Dallas and Austin, Texas. The company also intends to increase its footprint in existing locations in San Jose, California, and Bangalore, India. This move is a clear indicator of the company's commitment to growth and its determination to make a mark in the RISC-V market.
