Reunion in the baseball field is on the cards as the Taiwanese professional baseball team, Taitung Lions, has selected pitcher Guo Junlin during their second expansion draft. Guo, formerly of the Fubon Guardians, was drafted by the current head coach of the Taitung Lions, Hong Yi-zhong, during an earlier draft when both were with different teams.
Reunion At Taitung Lions
The selection marks a reunion for the pitcher and the head coach, bringing back memories and expectations for the forthcoming season. The Fubon Guardians took to their Facebook fan page to extend their gratitude towards Guo for his commendable contributions over the past three seasons.
The Journey of Guo Junlin
Guo's journey has been a rollercoaster ride to say the least. He experienced injuries early in his career which led him to undergo surgery. His first major league appearance was only after the surgery, on November 9, 2021. Despite the setbacks, Guo managed to register 3 wins and 7 losses with an earned run average (ERA) of 4.11 in the 2022 season and 2 wins and 7 losses with a 6.39 ERA in relief appearances in the 2023 season.
Expansion Draft: A Game Changer
Alongside Guo, Taitung Lions has also drafted other players like Chen Wen-chieh from the CTBC Brothers. The team has also publicly announced their 18-player protection list along with five new players to strengthen their squad. The expansion draft has significantly affected the career paths of several players, not to mention the dynamics of the teams involved, causing both teams and fans to reevaluate and acknowledge the shifts.
