Real Sociedad’s Stand: Arsen Zakharyan Free to Join Russian National Team

Arsen Zakharyan: Real Sociedad’s New Recruit
Real Sociedad, the premier Spanish football club, recently welcomed Arsen Zakharyan, a promising Russian midfielder, into their ranks. Zakharyan joined the San Sebastian team after transferring from Dynamo Moscow during the summer. The young 20-year-old player signed an agreement that extends to the conclusion of the 2028/29 season.
Despite his evident potential, Zakharyan’s performance for his new club has so far been modest. He has yet to score in the three matches he has played for Real Sociedad. Nevertheless, the club recognizes Zakharyan’s potential and is ready to support his international career.
Real Sociedad’s Support for Zakharyan’s International Duty
Real Sociedad has made it clear that they are open to Zakharyan representing the Russian national team, should he receive an invitation. A representative from the club’s press service confirmed that if Zakharyan is called up for duty during the pause for international matches, the club will not pose any hindrance.
This statement sends a clear message about Real Sociedad’s stance on international duty. Even though Zakharyan’s performance for the club has not been outstanding so far, they respect the importance of international representation and are prepared to facilitate it if the opportunity arises for their young player.
Contradicting Rumors: No Ban on National Service
Earlier rumors suggested that Zakharyan’s contract included a clause forbidding him from playing for the Russian national team. However, these reports were swiftly refuted by the club’s press service, which stated that such information was false.
There was also speculation about an application being sent to the International Football Federation (FIFA) to change Zakharyan’s nationality and transfer him to the Armenian national team. But these rumors were categorically dismissed by the Spanish club as inaccurate.
Zakharyan’s Journey: From Dynamo to Real Sociedad
Zakharyan’s transfer to Real Sociedad was not only a significant move for the player but also a strategic one for the club. Following the sudden retirement of David Silva due to a severe ACL injury, Real Sociedad had been scouting for a replacement. Their search ended with Zakharyan, a bright talent who had attracted the interest of numerous top clubs across Europe.
Real Sociedad finally clinched the deal with Dynamo Moscow for Zakharyan, agreeing to a fee around €13m plus add-ons. Zakharyan’s arrival was hailed as a major coup for the club, given his reputation as one of the most promising midfield talents in European football.
Zakharyan: A Rising Star in Football
Arsen Zakharyan, born in 2003 in Samara, Russia, has been turning heads since his early years. His exceptional talent was evident from the age of 6, and his first coach, Vladimir Korolev, predicted a bright future for him. His journey from training at the Yuri Konoplyov football academy to playing for Dynamo Moscow was marked by impressive performances and recognition.
In the 2020-2021 season, Zakharyan began with Dynamo’s youth team and scored 8 goals in 15 games. His elegance, versatility, and ability to read the game set him apart. He was soon included in The Guardian’s list of best young football players and entered the list of the most expensive football players under 18. However, it was his move to Real Sociedad that marked a significant leap in his career.
