Former NBA player, Filip Petrušev, has officially signed with Olympiacos, marking his return to the EuroLeague. After a brief stint with the Philadelphia 76ers and Sacramento Kings in the NBA, Petrušev has opted to join the Greek club Olympiacos, where he expects to play more regularly and assume a crucial role in the EuroLeague. Despite his shift to Europe, Petrušev keeps the door ajar for a potential return to the NBA in the future.
A move influenced by a former MVP
It was his strong desire to compete and contribute to the team that drove Petrušev to Olympiacos. His decision was significantly influenced by former Olympiacos player and MVP, Sasha Vezenkov. Vezenkov played a vital role in persuading Petrušev to choose the Greek club over other offers. The Serbian player is hopeful that his move to Olympiacos and the EuroLeague will provide him with the platform he needs to showcase his skills and grow as an athlete.
Versatility and Familiarity–Keys to Success
Petrušev's versatility will be an asset to Olympiacos. He is capable of playing both the power forward and center positions, providing the team with strategic flexibility. Furthermore, his familiarity with Nikola Milutinov, a teammate from the national team, is likely to aid his integration into the new team. As of yet, Petrušev has not spoken with Olympiacos coach Barzokas but is confident that he will have sufficient time to adjust to the new dynamics.
An NBA Dream Deferred
Although Petrušev has left the NBA, he remains optimistic about his dream. He believes that the NBA is still within his reach and keeps the possibility of a return in the future open. However, for the time being, Petrušev's primary focus is on playing and making significant contributions to his new team, Olympiacos. His past experience with Red Star and the unique atmosphere it offered has him excited to remain part of the passionate fan family in Europe.
