During a gathering with supporters of the Citizen Movement in Tepic, Samuel García, the sole candidate for the presidency by said party, harshly criticized the alliance of opposing parties PRI, PAN, and PRD. García described the coalition as a desperate attempt to survive against the ruling government and predicted the extinction of the PRD within this group.
Derogatory Remarks and Predictions
García referred disparagingly to national opposition leaders and former presidents Felipe Calderón and Vicente Fox, labeling them with nicknames such as "the foolish, the drunk, the marijuana user, the liar, and the corrupt." He argued that the coalition only shares the interest of opposing the current president Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador, without considering the welfare of Mexico or a vision to win the presidency in 2024.
In addition, García criticized Morena, the ruling party, for its handling of the government and the recent split during the selection of its presidential candidates. He mentioned the situation of Marcelo Ebrard, who initially withdrew from the race and was later reinstated.
The Impact on Opposition Candidate
The presence of Samuel García is not good news for Xóchitl Gálvez, the opposition candidate. Little or much what the candidate can achieve would dent the need that Xóchitl has to attract independent voters and the less politicized. The Citizen Movement aspires to become a viable third electoral force.
The president moves the board towards the 2024 elections and comes to the defense of the Citizen Movement candidate, amid the controversy over who will stay in the Nuevo León Government. Also, it is revealed that Morena's presidential race was settled with an agreement for the distribution of "consolation prizes" among the contenders, which has not yet been publicly ratified.
