On December 9, 2023, Maryam Nawaz, the Chief Organizer of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), delivered a critical address at a youth convention in Jalalpur Jattan. The core of her discourse was the perceived slow pace of justice for Nawaz Sharif, her father and leader of PML-N. Maryam condemned the notion of undue favoritism towards Sharif, terming such suggestions as disgraceful.
Alleged Conspiracies and Corruptions
Maryam raised allegations of conspiracies against Nawaz Sharif during Imran Khan's tenure. She pointed out the facilitation of these schemes by a figure in Adiala Jail, culminating in what she claimed to be the largest corruption case in Pakistan's history. Sharif, she asserted, was permitted to run in only one election in 22 years, indicating a lack of a level playing field.
Prison Amenities and Treatment
Maryam also drew attention to the provision of amenities to Nawaz Sharif in prison, such as organic chicken and exercise machines. She argued that all inmates should receive similar treatment. Recalling her father's 11 years in exile and his continuous court appearances, she posed a question: is there any prison in Pakistan he has not resided in?
Defending Nawaz Sharif's Track Record
Maryam defended Nawaz Sharif's track record of implementing projects of significant value. She challenged the absence of corruption allegations against him in these projects, despite relentless efforts and expenditure to find evidence of corruption. She highlighted Sharif's achievements, including the construction of motorways, progress on the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), and the resolution of the energy crisis during his tenure. She also condemned baseless allegations from the PTI chief and the misuse of public funds to validate these claims.
