A recent viral photo on social media, allegedly featuring the accused in the assassination of Karni Sena Chief Sukhdev Singh Gogamedi, has been debunked as unrelated to the case. The image, widely circulated with calls for the individuals shown to be encountered, has been fact-checked by Aaj Tak, revealing that the two men depicted were arrested for a separate case involving the illicit sale of firearms in Jaipur during August 2023.
Identity of the Men in the Viral Photo
The two individuals, identified as Manish Singh Gurjar and Vishnu Rajput, were apprehended selling illegal weapons in Jaipur, with the police seizing three pistols and nine live cartridges from them. Their arrest under the Arms Act took place at the Shivdaspura police station in Jaipur, as verified through a reverse image search leading to a report by ETV Bharat dated August 22, 2023, and corroborated by Dainik Bhaskar and Patrika who had videos of the arrest available.
Murder of Sukhdev Singh Gogamedi
Sukhdev Singh Gogamedi, the Karni Sena Chief, was assassinated at his home in Jaipur on December 5 by two shooters. A member of the Lawrence Bishnoi gang, Rohit Godara Kapursari, has claimed responsibility for the murder. The police have identified Rohit Rathore and Nitin Fauji as the shooters, while a third accomplice, Naveen Shekhawat, was also killed by the shooters while fleeing the scene. Until the time of this report, there have been no confirmed arrests of the two shooters.
The False Narrative
The viral image on social media alleged a connection between the BJP and Rohit Godara, one of the suspects in Gogamedi's murder. However, the fact-check reveals that while the individual in the photo is indeed named Rohit Godara, he is not the same Rohit Godara accused of the crime. The Rohit Godara implicated in Gogamedi's murder is a member of the Lawrence Bishnoi gang, and he has publicly taken responsibility for the murder on Facebook.
