In a display of shifting political dynamics, Cagayan de Oro City's Councilor Imee Rose Moreno, daughter of former Mayor Oscar Moreno, was stripped of her chairperson roles in two city council committees during a session on November 28. Despite her allegiance to Mayor Rolando Uy's administration, Moreno was ousted from her positions on the committees on women and family relations and cooperatives.
Unfolding of Events
Proposed Resolution No. 540, which prompted this reshuffle, also appointed new chairpersons and members for other committees. Councilor Joyleen Mercedes Balaba and Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) Federation President Councilor Kenneth John Sacala were entrusted with the roles previously held by Moreno.
A Reflective Decision
The decision to remove Moreno seemed to echo the evolving political dynamics within the council. During the session, Moreno, who appeared emotionally affected, faced the media, while minority councilors abstained from voting on the resolution.
Although Moreno has been critical of the Uy administration's financial decisions and abstained from approving a controversial ordinance, she expressed no ill feelings towards her colleagues. She pledged to persist in her public service efforts. However, she did express concern for her 14 job order workers who might bear the brunt of this reorganization.
