Taiwan’s New Online Visa Application System: A Leap Towards Efficient Travel

Revamping the Visa Application Process

In a bid to attract more foreign travelers and promote tourism, the Taiwanese government is set to launch a new online visa application system. The much-anticipated system, scheduled for launch on October 12, 2021, promises to revolutionize the visa application process by making it faster, more efficient, and less costly.

Agnes Chen, the Director-General of the Bureau of Consular Affairs, outlined the key features and benefits of the new system. According to Chen, the system will reduce the processing time for visa applications from five days to just one. Additionally, it will decrease the cost of visa applications, a move that is set to benefit both the government and the applicants.

Additional Benefits for Foreign Travelers

The online system will offer more than just reduced processing time and costs. It will provide a platform for applicants to check the status of their visa application online, saving them valuable time and effort. Additionally, it will allow applicants to apply for a visa at any time of the day, making the process more convenient.

Taiwan, known for its rich culture, scenic beauty, and vibrant cities, attracted over 11 million foreign tourists in 2019. The new system will likely play a crucial role in increasing these numbers further. Also, to ensure easy access for foreign travelers, the online visa application system will support several languages, including English, Japanese, and Korean.

Introducing the Electronic Visa (e-Visa) Service

Complementing the online visa application system, the Taiwanese government is also set to launch a new electronic visa (e-Visa) service. The e-Visa service will allow foreign travelers to obtain a visa electronically, without the need to visit a Taiwanese embassy or consulate. This service is scheduled to commence on a trial basis in November 2021.

The introduction of the e-Visa service is a testament to the Taiwanese government’s commitment to improving its visa services and making them more accessible to foreign travelers. This service will undoubtedly further simplify the visa acquisition process, making Taiwan a more attractive destination for international travelers.

Boosting Taiwan’s Tourism and Economic Development

The Taiwanese government’s initiatives towards improving visa services are expected to significantly boost the country’s tourism industry. The new online visa application system and the e-Visa service will not only make the visa application process quicker and cheaper but also more convenient for foreign travelers. This increased convenience is expected to attract more foreign tourists to Taiwan and consequently stimulate the country’s economy.

In conclusion, the Taiwanese government’s initiatives reflect its commitment to making Taiwan more accessible to the global community. The new online visa application system and the e-Visa service are significant strides towards achieving this goal. By making the visa application process more efficient and convenient, Taiwan is set to become an even more enticing destination for foreign travelers.
