Burkina Faso Security Forces Neutralize 20 Terrorists

Elite Units Take Action
In a coordinated operation, Burkina Faso’s elite police unit, the Group of Mobile Intervention Units (GUMI), joined forces with the Volunteers for the Defense of the Homeland (VDP) to dismantle multiple terrorist bases. These bases were located in Kossouka and Timnaoré, situated respectively in the Yatenga province of the Northern Region and the Bam province of the North Central Region.
Successful Counterterrorism Operation
The joint action, supported by air assets, took place on Sunday, September 24, 2023, as part of efforts to secure the nation’s territory. According to an official army press release, this operation resulted in the successful neutralization of more than twenty terrorists. Several individuals were also captured, and the terrorist hideouts were destroyed during the mission.

The Chief of General Staff of the Armed Forces expressed his commendation for the mixed unit involved in this triumphant offensive. He extended his encouragement to all the dedicated forces engaged in the ongoing mission to reclaim and secure Burkina Faso’s national territory. This operation underscores the government’s commitment to combatting terrorism and maintaining peace and stability in the region.
Burkian Fao is currently being ruled by a junta led by Captain Ibrahim Traore, who has vowed to solve the security challenges facing the country. This has led to reforms in different sectors amid daunting opposition to his regime.
