In the face of a rising number of Covid-19 cases in Sarawak, Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, Minister of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Sarawak, has assured that the situation is currently under control. Abdul Karim has emphasized that the Ministry is prepared to implement precautionary measures, if required, in accordance with the guidelines provided by the Ministry of Health (KKM).
Current Covid-19 Situation in Sarawak
Despite the increase in Covid-19 cases in Sarawak, Abdul Karim has dismissed any immediate cause for alarm. He cited that most of the cases exhibit only mild symptoms, likening them to a common cold. He stated that the fatality rate of Covid-19 has been lower, therefore, the situation does not currently burden health facilities.
Guidelines for Tourism and Events
Abdul Karim further stated that no specific Covid-19 measures have been put in place for visitors to the state as of now. However, he assured that if the situation escalates, the Ministry of Health (KKM) will issue necessary directives. He emphasized that all events organized by his ministry will adhere to established guidelines, and necessary actions will be taken accordingly.
Integrity Day and Future Precautions
During the Sarawak Tourism Board's (STB) Integrity Day, which Abdul Karim officiated, he reiterated the importance of adherence to guidelines in the face of the Covid-19 threat. He urged the public to continue practicing preventive measures like maintaining a high level of personal hygiene. While cases are rising, Abdul Karim noted that the elderly and those at risk should exercise caution as they are more prone to severe symptoms.
