New Health Clinic Opens in South Dallas, Offering Hope and Care for Lower-Income Families

In an area often described as a medical care desert, a beacon of hope shines bright with the opening of a new health clinic in South Dallas. Located at 3639 Holmes Street, right next to Viola's House Baby Benefit Boutique, HHM Health, a community-driven nonprofit, commenced operations this Monday, promising comprehensive, low-cost medical care for individuals of all ages, regardless of their insurance status. This strategic location allows for a synergistic approach to healthcare, providing mothers, families, and children with a one-stop-shop for their medical needs.

Addressing Healthcare Disparities

Dr. LaTasha Jarrett, Chief Medical Officer at HHM Health, emphasized the critical nature of the health care crisis in South Dallas during the clinic's opening ceremony. "South Dallas grapples with a health care crisis," she stated, underlining the clinic's mission to serve as a "beacon of hope" for the underserved community. The clinic aims to dismantle barriers related to cost, geographic location, language, and fear, ensuring comprehensive and compassionate medical services are accessible to everyone. The clinic offers a wide range of services including annual physicals, immunizations, STI/HIV screenings, and obstetric and gynecologic care.

Integrated Care for Families

Brian Hawkins, President and CEO of HHM Health, highlighted the transformative potential of the clinic's integrated health care services for families in South Dallas. "We're taking care of the whole individual," Hawkins remarked, stressing the importance of meeting community members where they are. The clinic not only offers primary care but also connects clients to its programs for HIV treatment, hepatitis C, imaging, optometry, dental, and behavioral health. This comprehensive approach addresses the complex needs of the community, many of whom are lower-income and face challenges like food insecurity and transportation issues.

The establishment of the clinic was made possible through the support of several philanthropic organizations, including The Addy Foundation, The Boone Family Foundation, BCBS of Texas, the Hattie Mae Lesley Foundation, and an anonymous donor. Viola's House, a key partner in this initiative, has been providing support to mothers faced with unplanned pregnancies since 2008. Thana Hickman-Simmons, Executive Director of Viola's House, expressed her enthusiasm for the partnership with HHM Health, recognizing the critical need for accessible health care services for her clients.
