The collision's intensity caused the car's central lock system to jam, leaving the passengers trapped inside the burning vehicle. Despite desperate attempts to escape, the situation's grim reality left them without a chance. The car, entwined with the truck, skidded approximately 25 meters forward before being consumed by the blaze. The incident's aftermath saw one lane of the Nainital Highway completely closed, leading to significant traffic congestion as vehicles from one direction found themselves stranded.

Around 1 AM, the bodies were retrieved, and the wreckage of the car and truck was removed from the road with the aid of a crane. This allowed the resumption of normal traffic flow. The police reported that the SUV's driver lost control of the vehicle after a tyre puncture, causing it to jump the barrier onto the road's other side, where it was hit by the oncoming truck. The police are conducting a thorough investigation into the incident, and the bodies have been sent for post-mortem.
