Nepal's Dairy Farmers Demand Immediate Payment Settlement

On Thursday, the All Nepal Farmers Federation issued a press release demanding immediate payment settlement for dairy farmers across the nation. The Federation has voiced their concern regarding the distressing circumstance where dairy producers are yet to receive payments amounting to approximately 6 billion Nepalese rupees for milk sold over the past six months. This payment delay has disheartened nearly 30 lakh farmer families that rely on dairy production.

Federation's Stand on the Payment Issue

The Federation has pointed out that half of the unsettled payments are due from the government-owned Dairy Development Corporation (DDC), while the remaining are owed by private sector dairies. The Federation has not only demanded a speedy resolution to the payment issue but also an investigation into the reasons behind this non-payment to dairy farmers.

Accusations Against High-Level DDC Employees

The Federation has also accused high-level employees of DDC of facilitating the import and distribution of substandard quality and fake foreign milk powder. This, they say, is not only endangering the health of the Nepalese population but also discouraging local milk production.

Call for Immediate Resolution

In the face of this predicament, the Federation is urging for an urgent solution to the payment issue and a thorough investigation into the reasons for non-payment. The Federation's stand is clear: prompt payment is not just about the survival of dairy farmers, but also about the health of the nation and the promotion of local milk production.
