Unrelenting Criminal Activities

The residents, who are predominantly small-scale farmers, have become victims of relentless robberies over the past few weeks. The criminals are not just after their cows, sheep, and chickens, but also household appliances. The menace has not only led to significant economic losses but also the destruction of property.

Vitalis Oloo and Dominic Omondi, two of the many victims, voiced their concerns, echoing the sentiments of many: the robberies have become too frequent, and the fear is palpable. More distressingly, some of these criminal acts have resulted in the loss of life, amplifying the urgency of the situation.

Perceived Police Inaction

The local community has been rattled by what they perceive as inaction by the police. Despite the numerous reports filed concerning these incidents, the victims feel that the law enforcement's response has been lackluster. The frustration is mounting as the residents of these villages feel abandoned in their time of need.

On the other hand, Siaya police commander Cleti Kemboi acknowledged the disturbing trend in Ugunja sub-county. However, he noted that the overall cases of livestock theft in the border region between Siaya and Kakamega counties have significantly decreased.

He went on to reassure the residents that the police have leads on suspects, and investigations are actively underway to curb the crime wave and restore peace.
