This foundation led him to pursue a plant sciences major at the University of Minnesota and later a doctorate in plant pathology at Cornell University. At Cornell, Branch concentrated his research on rhizoctonia solani, a significant disease affecting table beets, exploring both conventional and biological disease management strategies.
