Embodying the rhythmic vigor of the Caribbean, T&TEC New East Side Dimension has carved out the top position in the semi-final round of the National Panorama Small Conventional final. The Scarborough-based steelband, under the masterful conduction of Kersh Ramsey, demonstrated their prowess with an energized rendition of "Toco Band" by Lord Kitchener, earning them a leading score of 277 points.

Close Competition and Noteworthy Performances

The competition, held at Victoria Square, Port of Spain, was a spectacle of Trinidad and Tobago's rich musical tradition. La Horquetta Pan Groove, with a spirited performance, secured the second position with 274 points. Fusion Steel and Tokyo, both delivering captivating performances, tied for the third spot with 273 points each. The defending champion, Uptown Fascinators, ended up in the fifth position with 272 points, demonstrating the fierce competition and high standards of the event.

Apart from the top scorers, the event resonated with noteworthy performances by Trinidad and Tobago Defence Force's "Ben Lion" and Golden Hands' "Tension", both securing a commendable score of 271 points.

Anticipation Builds for the Final

The grand final, set to take place at Skinner Park, San Fernando, is already sparking anticipation among enthusiasts. Ramsey, who won his first Panorama title with Katzenjammers in the Medium Band final last year, remains focused on the upcoming competition. He has been advising his band to avoid overconfidence and concentrate on their preparation.

The semi-final marked the return of pan music to downtown Port of Spain, attracting a modest group of dedicated enthusiasts. Among the attendees was the Minister of Culture and the Arts, Randall Mitchell. The event served as a testament to the enduring appeal of pan music, a distinctive feature of Trinidad and Tobago's cultural fabric.

Beverly Ramsey-Moore, the president of Pan Trinbago, announced Akeem Charles-Baptiste as the winner of the 2024 National Panorama jingle competition, adding another layer of excitement to the event. As the final draws closer, the steelbands are gearing up to deliver their best, promising a thrilling contest for the title.
