Polish President Andrzej Duda, accompanied by the Minister of Interior and Administration Mariusz Kamiński, visited the Border Guard facility in Włodawa, Lublin Voivodeship on September 26. The visit brought Duda to the tripoint region where the borders of Poland, Belarus, and Ukraine intersect. During this visit, he met with border guards, police, and military personnel, acknowledging their service and expressing his gratitude.
President’s Regret Over Film Portrayal
During his interaction with the officers, President Duda referenced a film by Agnieszka Holland, ‘Green Border’, without explicitly mentioning the title. He expressed regret and disappointment as a Polish citizen and president responsible for the security of Poland’s borders, over the way these officers were portrayed in the film. Duda highlighted the democratic nature of the country, stating that everyone is entitled to their opinions. However, he criticized those who forcefully assert their beliefs, resorting to lies and slander, and spreading falsehoods, which he believes harm Poland and its citizens.

Artistic Freedom and its Boundaries
The president also addressed the issue of artistic freedom, stating that he believed the boundaries of such freedom had been far exceeded in the case of Holland’s film. He mentioned that he had not seen the film himself but was basing his comments on the remarks of those who had. Duda referred to a previous statement he had made in the context of the film, quoting a comment from the Polish Border Guard representatives who had watched the film, expressing regret if anyone felt offended by his words.
President’s Future Plans Regarding the Film
President Duda confirmed that he does not intend to watch the film in the near future. His plan is to wait until it is shown on television as he does not want to pay extra to watch it. He also mentioned that in his opinion, the film is “anti-Polish”.
