Jennifer Lopez to Star in 'Kiss of The Spider Woman' Film Adaptation

Jennifer Lopez, the multi-hyphenate star, is set to captivate audiences in a new role as Aurora in the film adaptation of the Broadway musical 'Kiss of The Spider Woman.' Directed by the talented Bill Condon, the musical roots back to the 1976 novel by Manuel Puig, with a script penned by the late Terrence McNally and music by John Kander and Fred Ebb.

Stepping into the Shoes of Aurora

Lopez's character, Aurora, is an imagined figure conjured by the protagonist, Luis Molina, a gay hairdresser serving his time in prison. The narrative orbits around Molina's daydreams of Aurora's movies, a method he employs to escape his reality. In one such dream, he envisions Aurora as a lethal spider woman.

A New Take on a Celebrated Narrative

This project is not the first adaptation of Puig's novel. It was previously brought to life in a 1985 film that won an Oscar for actor William Hurt and a Broadway show that bagged seven Tony Awards. However, this new adaptation, featuring Lopez, promises to bring a fresh perspective to the beloved story. The casting for Molina's character is ongoing, focusing on an actor who could potentially portray a non-binary/trans femme character.

Embracing a Dual Role

Besides her involvement in the movie, Lopez continues to maintain a balanced presence in both music and cinema. She is also gearing up to release her ninth studio album, 'This Is Me... Now,' in February 2024. The movie's production, independently financed, will commence rehearsals in February 2024, with shooting scheduled to kick off in New Jersey in April.

The announcement of this exciting project was first made by Variety and later reported by Dailymail.com, revealing a promising venture that combines Lopez's musical prowess and acting skills in a compelling narrative.
